Barons

  • If any combatant would like a new baronial tabard to fight in at Pennsic this year, please notify Madelaine or Constanza by end of meeting next week (6/22) to allow time to have them made.
  • June Dessert Revel will be the next Cleftlands Rapier Tourney to occur outside, if possible.
  • We’re still looking for someone to transport the Cleftlands Baronial Tent to Pennsic to shade the heavy combatants on the field.
  • At Standard Bearers, the A&S theme will be “Of the Cleftlands” – please be prepared to explain how your entry is about the Cleftlands or a member of the Cleftlands.

  • NOWM autocrats report another amazing event hosting 618 people. There were only some minor injuries during the event. Ginevra and Gianna thank, especially, Sir Artair and Baroness Birna for schlepping tents and equipment, House Bloodjack for helping with setup, Lord Robert and Lady Jolicia atte Northclyfe for running parking.
  • Next year’s NOWM autocrats are looking for volunteers. Please volunteer early and often.

  • Last weekend was Crown Tourney and Kingdom A&S Faire.
  • The newest heirs of the Middle Kingdom are Prince Edmund and Princess Kateryn.
  • At the Kingdom A&S Faire, Sir Eikbrandr took a first in decorative metalwork, Baroness Angharad, Lady Claricia, Lady Elizabella, and the Cleftlands Cooks took firsts in cooking, single and multiple dish; Lady Sazia (Dasani) took a first and a second in glasswork, Lord Tarmach a second in play writing, and Baroness Zuriel, who participated in the pentathlon took three first and a second, and was the second highest pentathlon scorer.
  • During the day, Captain Ivan Shishov won the Armored Tourney, Lord Tarmach won the Archery Tourney, Lady Kateline stepped up as Kingdom Exchequer.
  • The last meeting in June will be the Rapier Tourney, to be held outdoors, possibly at the Bocce Ball court.
  • At Standard Bearer’s the theme of the A&S competition will be ‘Of Cleftlands” about the Barony, members of it, or any related theme.
  • We’re still looking for someone to help transport the Baronial Pavilion, and to organize Battlefield Hospitality.

  • For the first time, a same-sex couple has been crowned in the SCA, as the heirs of Northshield. The pair are taking titles from an Asiatic culture which had two rulers, one for combat activities, and the other for religious and cultural activities.

Congratulations Thorin Eikskjald!

On Wednesday, April 27, the Cleftlands lists were opened up to all armored combatants to test their mettle in the annual tournament. Fifteen inspired combatants stepped forth and took to the lists. When the flurry of rattan slowed and the last blows were counted, one armored combatant emerged victorious and earned the right to carry the Cleftlands sword. Congratulations to Captain Thorin Eikskjald for winning the tournament and to Captain Tariq al Sanna Af Fjall for winning the esteem of the ladies gallery.

  • NOWM Event Stewards are looking for volunteers to fill several positions including: Marshals for the Youth Combat, Rapier Twilight Tourney, Armored Twilight Tourney, a Siege Engine Marshall, an Archery Marshall to coordinate the Archery field, an Artisan’s Row Coordinator, and a host for the Brewer’s Round table. Barons

  • They’re looking for people to transport the Baronial Tent, used on the Main Battlefield, to Pennsic. They’re also looking for someone to coordinate Battlefield Hospitality at the Main Battlefield: water, pickles, and the like. If you would like to volunteer, or inquire more about either role, please contact the Barons.
  • As the Barony has expanded its activities, it is time for Standard Bearer’s to also change. This year, they are expanding Standard Bearer’s to choose an Equestrian Champion.
  • At baronial court, Baroness Zuriel was made a member of the Order of St Alfred for her cheerful service as List Mistress within the Barony.

  • The SCA New Year is fast approaching: May 1 is our New Year’s Day. Prepare to welcome Anno Societatis (AS) 51.
  • We’re looking for bids for the fall Standard-Bearers, or January 2017 events. Please check with the seneschal if you’ve questions.

Events

  • Milesent thank everyone who attended and helped with Dressed to Kill, noting Ulfr, who coordinated the Armouring classes, and then was unable to even attend.
  • Bob announced that he needs all receipts from Dressed to Kill by next Wednesday for reimbursement.
  • Ginevra announced that the event stewards are looking for volunteers for many staff positions for NOWM in June, including marshalls, Class Coordinator, Artisan’s Row coordinator, and more. They’ll be posting the full list on Cleftlist and the Facebook page.
  • Colette announced that Southern Oaken A&S Faire is this weekend: Her Majesty still has open slots for retainers.

Officers

  • Bastian: As Knights Marshall, reminds us that as we approach the end of April, fighting will be moving outdoors as weather permits. If the ground is too wet, we’ll be fighting in the parking lot rather than tearing up the wet ground.
  • Tariq: As the Iron Key coordinator, he is looking to re-find any pieces of amour loaned from the Iron Key stash, or for donations of armor to build up the stash.
  • Crispin: As Minister of Arts and Sciences (A&S), he’s looking for people interested in teaching or sharing any skills. Please contact him to schedule classes. He is also coordinating with the Gwyntarian and Eastwatch A&S Ministers to start a Cleveland Museum of Art meet-up the last Sunday of each month, to explore the museum as a group. If you’ve areas of expertise you’d like to share, or interests you’d like to explore, please let them know.

  • Two Cleftlanders received awards at Grand Tournament of the Unicorn two weeks ago: Mistress Sarah of the Eerie seas was elevated to the Order of the Pelican, and Sir Eikbrander was awarded the King’s Chalice.
  • Rules for Crown Tourney have been announced and are very different. If you’re interested in participating as a Crown combatant, please review them so you’re prepared.
  • The next Cleftlands Armored Tourney will be held in two weeks at 27-Apr. If you’ve questions about participating, please contact Calum at calum@att.net or Constanza at sunny_buchler@sbcglobal.net.
  • In preparing for Pennsic in August, the Barony is looking for volunteer(s) able and willing to transport the large Baronial pavilion to and from Pennsic. They are also looking for a person to coordinate Battlefield Hospitality: water and restoratives for the battle unit. Please contact them if you’ve questions about either role.
