With the blessings of Their Excellencies Crispin and Gianna, Captain Sirius of Cleftlands is sponsoring a two-headed troll tournament. The tournament will be held on Wednesday, May 15th, 2019 at 8:00 PM in Euclid, OH at the regular Cleftlands meeting. The format will be that of a two-headed troll, two fighters with an arm behind each other’s back (proper hand protection required) fighting with a sword and shield. In order to kill the troll both heads must be eliminated with a killing blow to the body or head of each half of the fighter. The troll with the most kills win, or in the case of a tie, the fastest time.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Congratulations King Edmund and Queen Kateryn!

On Saturday, May 4th in the far away lands of the Barony of Shadowed Stars, their Royal Majesties King Edmund and Queen Kateryn were crowned during a successful transition of power. We wish Count A’kos and Countess Bella well in their retirement.

Congratulations Shahzada Isfahani‎, Chatelaine!

The Cleftlands would like to welcome Lady Shahzada Isfahani as Chatelaine! A special thanks to the outgoing Lady Miriana of Cleftlands for her hard work and service over the last two years.

Congratulations Duke Valharic!

On Wednesday, April 24th, the Cleftlands lists were opened up to all armored combatants to test their mettle in the annual tournament. The theme of combat for the tournament was a random weapon style, including a rather humorous two-shield survival challenge. Numerous inspired combatants stepped forth and took to the lists. When the flurry of rattan, shields, and sweat slowed and the last blows were counted, one armored combatant emerged victorious.

Congratulations to the Duke Valharic Caligula Aurelius, inspired by Baroness Adele Kramer, for winning the novelty-themed tournament and the tourney prize of a folding armor stand* created by the hand of Baron Crispin al-Rumi and a custom Roman-inspired necklace and earring set created by Lady Miriana of Cleftlands.

In addition to the armored festivities, Lady Claricia de la Mere sponsored a friendly wagers table. While no one won the grand prize selecting the square with the final tournament combatants, second and third place were awarded to Forester Gwyneth Cole and Lady Sabine de Ancastre. The first place prize will carry through to the November rapier tournament later this year.

The Cook’s Guild sponsored a cooking challenge, with the theme of citrus. Here’s a small overview of the delicious offerings:

April Dessert Revel: Armored Combat Tournament

Their Excellencies Crispin and Gianna, fifth Baron and Baroness of the Cleftlands, cordially invite you to their spring Cleftlands Armored Combat Tournament. This tournament will be held on Wednesday, April 24th, 2019 at St. John of the Cross located at 140 Richmond Rd, Euclid, OH 44143 starting no later than 8:00 PM. All authorized armored combatants are encouraged to participate, regardless of rank, station, or location.

In honor of the 50th anniversary of the Middle Kingdom, all attendees are invited to come their finest attire. Consider this an early chance to show off garb that’s normally too nice to wear outside of coronations or crown tournaments! If competing, please arrive early enough to make your intentions known at the list table as well as reporting in to the heralds who will not only announce you and your consort, but help you process into the tourney by Order of Precedence. All combatants must show their identification, authorization, and membership cards when signing in.

Revelers are encouraged to swing by the gallery to get expert commentary*, bring and enjoy some nibbles, and enter a friendly wager on our squares-style “medieval” grids. Submit tokens or largesse** (no real money or alcohol) to reserve a square. When the final 8 are decided, names of those combatants will be put into the squares at random, so you never know who you’re going to get! Cheer on your contestants, and if you get the square that matches the final results, you’ll win the grand prize. Gifts for runners-up will also be awarded.

* Volunteer commentator(s) welcome! Please see Gianna or Claricia for details.
** Largesse collected will be added to the Cleftlands gift basket supplies. These supplies will be used for kingdom and/or visiting nobility gift baskets. Thank you!

New Weekly Meeting Site

Greetings unto all who live in, love, and/or frequent the Barony of the Cleftlands,

A momentous change is upon us! For the last fifteen years, the Barony of the Cleftlands has called the Slovenian Society Home in Euclid home. While the location served us well over the years, our weekly attendance has increased and we’ve begun to outgrow the space. That growth, coupled with an unsustainable hike in our rental fees prompted us to locate a new weekly meeting site.

It is my pleasure to announce that we have a NEW MEETING SITE!

St. John of the Cross
140 Richmond Rd.
Euclid, OH 44143

Our first meeting in this new location will be on Wednesday, April 17th, at our usual time of 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM.

This new site features a large gym area with plenty of space for both martial arts and socializing. Once construction and renovations are complete in the next couple of months, we will also have access to a classroom and small library area which will be perfect for classes. There is an outdoor grassy area that can be used during the warmer months.

We will be moving into a space that is eager to have us, a space that fits us well, and a space that is only five minutes from the current meeting site. This promises to be a wonderful change for us and I look forward to seeing all of you there on April 17th.

Special commendations to Baron Edward Brackenburye for his diligent labors in negotiating and securing us this new home.

Yours in Service to the Cleftlands,

Cadfan of Cleftlands
