A&S: Let’s Do Lunch-A How-To & Taste Testing

Running a lunch tavern can be a fun way to help out at an event – after all, everyone loves food! This class is aimed at guiding people through the process of preparing for and running lunch at an SCA event. If you’re thinking about doing lunch for an event, or running an event where there will be a lunch, have stories of lunches you’ve done, or just like talking about food, stop by! And since part of planning any meal is testing the recipes, you can also help the cooks by giving your opinion on a trial run of dumplings for this year’s Standard Bearer’s. Lend your palate to the cause! There will be food at the class so any with allergies should be cautious.

Not for children.

Date: July 12, 2017 @ 8pm

Instructor: Claricia de la Mere

The Armored Combat and Rapier list drew a lot of attention and visitors to our demonstration were dazzled by the variety of activities on display. These activities included: spinning, card weaving, dancing, sewing, caligraphy, and the process of turning flax into linen. In addition to adults, many kids came by and were very excited to try on armor and pick up shields. The event was well attended by the public and everyone had a wonderful time.

Pennsic University is truly an academic “one of a kind.” It can also be daunting for a newcomer and sometimes something of a coin flip for seasoned alumni. This will be an open discussion on topics such as how to choose classes, how to keep track of schedules during what is always a hectic two weeks, and how to maximize your experience. A whiz at note taking and actually filing class handouts when you get home? Bring your best suggestions. Already know about some upcoming classes not to be missed? Come tell us about them. Great handouts from last classes you want to share? By all means. Newcomer? Welcome and pull up a chair!

Happy 52nd Birthday, SCA!

An invitation to the first SCA gathering at UC Berkeley on May 1, 1966.

The Barony of the Cleftlands would like to wish the Society for Creative Anachronism Happy 52nd Birthday!

An abridged history from the annuls of Wikipedia:

The SCA’s roots can be traced to a backyard graduation party of a UC Berkeley medieval studies graduate, the author Diana Paxson, in Berkeley, California, on May Day in 1966. The party began with a “Grand Tournament” in which the participants wore helmets, fencing masks, and usually some semblance of a costume, and sparred with each other using weapons such as plywood swords, padded maces, and fencing foils. It ended with a parade down Telegraph Avenue with everyone singing “Greensleeves”. […] The name Berkeley Society for Creative Anachronism was coined […] when the nascent group needed an official name in order to reserve a park for a tournament. “Berkeley” was dropped as the group expanded.

Congratulations Avanger of Brendoken!

On Wednesday, April 26th, the Cleftlands lists were opened up to all armored combatants to test their mettle in the bi-annual tournament. Numerous inspired combatants stepped forth and took to the lists. When the flurry of rattan, sweat, and dramatic deaths slowed and the last blows were counted, one armored combatant emerged victorious and earned the right to carry the Cleftlands sword. Congratulations to the Lord Avanger of Brendoken for winning the tournament and to Lady Æthelwynn Skerra Dimma for winning the esteem of the ladies gallery.

In addition to the armored festivities, the office of the seneschal changed hands from the honorable Lady Gianna Vettori to Lord Cadfan of Cleftlands.

The list included:
