Congratulations Pietro Nicolo da San Tebaldo!

On Wednesday, February 22nd, the Cleftlands lists were opened up to all rapier combatants to test their mettle in the bi-annual tournament. Eleven inspired combatants stepped  forth and took to the lists. When the flurry of steel, spoons, and stuffed otters slowed and the last blows were counted, one rapier combatant emerged victorious and earned the right to carry the Cleftlands sword. Congratulations to the Honorable Lord Pietro Nicolo da San Tebaldo for winning the tournament and to Lord Levi Athan of Cleftlands for winning the esteem of the ladies gallery.

In addition to the rapier festivities, their Excellencies Calum and Constanza bestowed the Award of Saint Alfred to the Honorable Lord Muldonny McVriw and Lady Gwynedd Cole in recognition of their dedication to supporting the archery community and their gracious hosting of a regional archery practice.

Cleftlands Rapier Tournament

Their Excellencies Calum and Constanza, fourth Baron and Baroness of the Cleftlands, cordially invite you to their last rapier tournament held on Wednesday, February 22nd in Euclid, OH. All authorized rapier combatants are welcome to participate. The tournament will commence around 7:45 PM. If competing, please arrive early enough to make known your intentions to the List Table as well as reporting in to the Heralds who will not only announce you, but help you process into the tourney by Order of Precedence. Non-combatants, please honor the participants and dress your best in support of their valiant efforts.

Colette is also hosting a year-long challenge for teaching: a point for classes held at meetings, guilds, or events, and two points for teaching at Pennsic. At the March Dessert Revel, there will be a Scribal Arts show: please bring your scrolls off the wall to share with everyone.

Officer Opening – Seneschal

The Barony of the Cleftlands is accepting applications for Seneschal. If you would like to be considered for a position, please fill out the application online. The submission will be received by the Baron, Baroness, and Seneschal for review prior to being presented at an Officers meeting for final vote. The deadline for applications is March 8, 2017.

Job Description

The senechal is the legal and administrative representative of the Barony. They work closely with the baron and baroness (coronets) and acts as an adviser on baronial policy and kingdom law to help guide decisions and to remain compliant. The seneschal keeps the coronets apprised of matters or issues within the barony or kingdom and acts as a member of the financial committee, which is comprised of the seneschal, exchequer, and the baron and baroness. The seneschal will review event bids and prepare them for review by the baronial officers, will act as a deputy event steward to all events, and act as the signatory for any contracts. They, or their deputy, will run meetings (generally weekly) and officer meetings as necessary to discuss business items.

  • General thanks to the Barony and everyone who helped make the event work from Zsof and Dmitri as Event Stewards.
  • Madelaine thanked those who helped to man the gate, and said we approximately 420 people attend.
  • Claricia thanked everyone who assisted with prepping, cooking, serving and clean up for the feast, and especially for those who prepared the nine (yes 9) Hero’s dishes.
  • Sadira (Rowan) thanked everyone who helped to make lunch possible after she broke herself last week, especially Artair, Birna, and Meinhard.
  • Sorcha thanked the instructors and attendees of all the well-attended classes.
  • Ginevra thanked Angharad for handling the Open Dance after she fell ill.
  • In a display of great discipline, Gianna ensured the thank you’s went quickly by reserving all applause was actually reserved to the end.

  • Warder Marcos of Gwyntarian is taking over leadership for Cut and Thrust in the Northern Oaken region. He’s teaching at Gwyntarian meetings on the first Thursday of each month. He’s also meeting next Monday at the Battlezone Gym (sic) in Thistle to work with the new grappling rules for Cut and Thrust.

Meeting Minutes: 18-Jan-51

Events

  • Kateline is Royalty Liaison. She still needs a number of royal retainers and royalty room guards. Also, she’s looking for any items of largesse for the royalty baskets.
  • Event setup is next Friday starting at 8 pm. Help is needed to set up the site.
  •  There are 25 items for court, and counting, so it should be a great time.
  • Madelaine is taking pre-registration this week and next. She’s also taking pre-reg, through 10 am at the event, for the fighter ‘lunch bags’ which will be delivered to you at the list field.

Officers

  • Exchequer: If you’d like to make your site tithe for the year, Bob can give you a receipt to use with your taxes next year.
  • A&S Minister: Pietro will be demonstrating and teaching metal casting next week at meeting. Please let him know if you’ve like to take part so he can bring enough supplies for all interested. Also, Sir Crispin is looking for other classes for the schedule. Please let him know if you’ve a skill or knowledge you’d like to share.
  • Heavy Weapons: Thorin invites all fighters to check their helmet lining regularly. The foam will break down over time, and can lead to ‘squishy brain’ syndrome if not repaired.
  • Rapier: Velvet recommends rapier fighters also check the older parts of their armor as this can deteriorate as well.

  • Calum
    • This is the last weekend to prepare for January event.
    • The next Cleftlands Rapier Tourney will be held at the February Dessert Revel. Please bring your inspiration and enthusiasm to compete.
    • Don’t forget that next week is Dessert Revel. Please show up with a treat, in your best, and ready to revel or dance.
  • Constanza
    • We have signed a contract for this meeting site for the next year. There were 24 alternatives provided, but this site was cost effective and convenient. One new requirement is that we need to empty the garbage cans at the end of the night: please help consolidate your garbage to make this easier.
    • Robert de Gesves asked, some time ago, how he could get a Cleftlands favor. This was the inspiration for Constanza to begin making baronial favors. As this was the first time she had seen him since they were created, she called him up to present one to him, and then offered them to anyone else who might want one.

Cleftlands Mail Night

On Wednesday January 11, the Cleftlands hosted a chain mail throw back night. Armored and rapier combatants alike dusted and oiled their best chain mail for the evening.

Announcements

  • We have signed a contract with site for another year. We will be paying $100 a week, paid for by your site tithe. Thank you for the many other options provided, but after negotiations, our current site was cost competitive.

Events

  • Claricia is looking for help in the kitchen on the day of.
  • Zsof announced that they are still looking for people to work as royal retainers, royal room guards, and as a brute squad to help the royalty load and unload their gear at the event. Also, needed is a ‘grunt team’ to help prep the fighting hall for court, and the populace room for feast.
  • Jolicia will be leading an effort to create decorations at next week’s meeting. Please come to make things. Also, she is looking for people to bring banners, with their own stands and marked with your name, as hall decorations. If you can bring them to the next few meetings, they’ll be set up on Friday night.
  • Troll is open at meeting, and will be until the Wednesday immediately before the event. Pre-reg to avoid the lines. Madelaine is also looking for help at the Troll table the day of the event.
