Baronial and Kingdom Recommendations

Unto the populace of the Cleftlands do we, Crispin and Gianna, Baron and Baroness of the Cleftlands, send greetings.

With Northern Oaken War Maneuvers on the horizon in June, and the coming Pennsic Wars, we wished to take a moment to encourage reflection on the good works done by members of the society and to encourage writing award recommendations for either baronial or kingdom awards.

The Barony of the Cleftlands has three service-oriented awards to choose from: Saint Alfred, Saint Clairiel, and the Azure Chalice, and one combat-oriented award, the Award of the Azure Trident. To submit a recommendation for a baronial award, we encourage you to fill out our new form online, contact us via email, or speak to us in person.

The Middle Kingdom has a veritable cornucopia of awards to choose from. Award recommendations may be submitted by any person for any good gentle online via the Middle Kingdom Order of Precedence. If you do not already have an account, you can create one. Once logged in, to submit a request simply click on New Recommendation. The fields required for a submission are: the award recipient’s name, the award or honor, the event(s) they may be attending in the future, and the reason for your recommendation. While it doesn’t have to be an essay, be thorough in your support.

Here are a few examples from the web interface:

If you would like to check if your intended award recipient has received the honor, you may check the Cleftlands Wiki or the Middle Kingdom Order of Precedence. (We have heard our webminister and the wiki staff regularly cross check the OP and update the Wiki, but no one is perfect. 😉 )

We look forward to hearing from you!

In service,

Crispin and Gianna
Baron and Baroness of Cleftlands

Congratulations Count Nikolai!

On Wednesday, May 2nd the Barony of the Cleftlands hosted Captain Sirius’ 6′ Spear Tournament. The well attended tourney had over ten participants. When the dust finally settled and the blows were counted, Count Nikolai Grigorevich Petrov was victorious and the winner of a hand-crafted spear. Huzzah!

Congratulations Sirius of Cleftlands!

On Wednesday, April 25th, the Cleftlands lists were opened up to all armored combatants to test their mettle in the annual tournament. Numerous inspired combatants stepped forth and took to the lists. When the flurry of rattan, sweat, and dramatic deaths slowed and the last blows were counted, one armored combatant emerged victorious.

Congratulations to the Sargent Sirius of Cleftlands, inspired by Mistress Zuriel Nightshade, for winning the tournament and the tourney prize of a Mastermyr style oak chest designed by Lord Meinhard Hammerschmidt with hinges forged by Jason Nass of Hammer and Thistle Trading Company. Lady Bláár MacDougall was given honorable mention for her most amazing pirouette of death and Sir Thorin Eikskjald for winning the esteem of the gallery for his courtesy on the list.

In addition to the armored festivities, Lady Claricia de la Mere and Lady Jaquelinne de la Deicier sponsored a friendly wagers table. No one won the grand prize selecting the square with the final tournament combatants and the winner, so the wagers will carry through to the November rapier tournament later this year. It’s not too early to stock up on largess to bet with in the coming months! 😉

April Dessert Revel: Armored Combat Tournament

Their Excellencies Crispin and Gianna, fifth Baron and Baroness of the Cleftlands, cordially invite you to their spring Cleftlands Armored Combat Tournament. This tournament will be held on Wednesday, April 25th, 2018 in Euclid, OH starting no later than 8:00 PM. All authorized armored combatants are encouraged to participate, regardless of rank, station, or location.

If competing, please arrive early enough to make your intentions known at the list table as well as reporting in to the heralds who will not only announce you and your consort, but help you process into the tourney by Order of Precedence. Non-combatants, please do honor to your worthy champion and dress your best to support their efforts. All combatants must show their identification, authorization, and membership cards when signing in.

Revelers are encouraged to swing by the gallery to get expert commentary, bring and enjoy some nibbles, and enter a friendly wager on our squares-style “medieval” grids. Submit tokens or largesse* (no real money or alcohol) to reserve a square. When the final 8 are decided, names of those combatants will be put into the squares at random, so you never know who you’re going to get! Cheer on your contestants, and if you get the square that matches the final results, you’ll win the grand prize. Gifts for runners-up will also be awarded.

* Largesse collected will be added to the Cleftlands gift basket supplies. These supplies will be used for kingdom and/or visiting nobility gift baskets. Thank you!
