Archery:  practice on Monday 7/15 from 5-7pm

Armorers:  meeting at regular time & place, this week and next before Pennsic; see Baron Calum for details

Arts & Sciences:  class today – So, You’re Going To War, including the Pennsic safety meeting

Exchequer:  we ask each person to donate $2/meeting, or $100/yr; if this is your 1st meeting, please be our guest.  If you pay annually at the midway point of the year, that would be now.

Garb-a-Thon: Friday 7/12 from 10-4 at Bedford Library; bring a project to work on or help finish some of the baronial tabards.

Iron Key:  Now is the time to request loaner gear for Home Fires or Pennsic.

Makers:  it is too late for projects for this Pennsic; start planning for next year.

Musicians: Wednesday rehearsals @ 6:45 – 8pm, indoors or outside depending on weather

Needleworkers:  meeting 6:30pm Tuesday 7/16 at Critical Hit Games to work on some more tabards for the fighters; if you are fighting at Pennsic and do not already have a tabard, see Lady Leonne.

Saturday 03 August – 8AM – Artillery Crews muster at Newbridge Encampment to walk the guns out for the Battle of LaRochelle (Castle, 9AM)

Saturday 03 August (Middle Weekend) – 5PM – Opening Ceremonies on the Battlefield. Any who wish to march with the Barony in the Midrealm procession, muster on the road outside MK Royal Encampment no later than 4PM.

Monday 05 August (War Week) – Noon – Rapier Company muster at the Camp of the Three Bears for a 12:30 march to the Rapier Town/Cathedral Battle (1PM)

Thursday 08 August (War Week) – 9:30AM – Archery Company muster at the Camp of the Three Bears for a 10AM march(ride) to the Archery Field. [This conflicts with the Armored Woods Battle]

Events

Pennsic: 37 days to go!  Online prereg was extended through midnight tonight, 6/19.

 

Coronation: Their Highnesses have decided to move Fall Coronation to Indiana, closer to their home in Chicago.  The Kingdom Seneschal apologized for the inconvenience and any hardship to our barony, and made it clear that they were very happy with the bid when it was approved; the only issue was the 7+ hour distance that would preclude many of Their Highnesses’ friends and family from attending.

If you have made any purchases toward planning the event, please see Robert with the receipts so you can be reimbursed.

Baronial Court

With our Barone Pietro and Baronessa Aurelia speaking on behalf of Their Royal Majesties Ivan and Katalena, Lord Gunther Arnbach was presented with a scroll welcoming him into the Order of the Cavendish Knot.  This award was bestowed due to his longtime contributions to both teaching rapier skills and marshalling at rapier lists.  Huzzah!

We had 440+ attendees at the event, about a quarter of which were registered in advance; Ser Nikolai is looking for suggestions on how we can boost advanced registration numbers even further next time.  From Cadfan – many thanks to all the staff & volunteers, along with everyone who came out and enjoyed the day; he’s already looking at ideas for next year…

Pennsic: mail-in preregistration has ended; online advanced registration ends this Friday 6/14!

Congratulations Prince Kilian and Princess Jalida!

On Saturday, May 26th in their Barony of Brendoken, their Royal Majesties Tsar Ivan and Tsaritsa Katalena hosted the 107th Crown Tournament of the Middle Kingdom in conjunction with the Kingdom Arts & Sciences Faire. Once the skies cleared and the blows were counted, the Midrealm rejoiced in the knowledge that the heirs to the throne had been revealed. We are pleased to welcome Prince Kilian Fendrich and Princess Jalida al Hasannah. Congratulations to Their Royal Highnesses!

Dessert Revel on May 29 will be a Baronial Marketplace; bring SCA-related items to sell or give away. Details about whether it will be held indoors or outside will be coming soon.

UPCOMING BARONIAL EVENTS

June 8: NOWM, Ukrainian American Youth Association Resort in Wellington. There will be armored combat, combat archery, rapier, thrown weapons and A&S. PayPal is available on the website. Registration is now open at meetings. Help is needed with gate; see Count Nikolai if you can volunteer. Saturday night camping is available; it will be handled by the campground.

Event stewards are Forester Cadfan of the Autumn Wood, Lord Hrafnkell Inn Raudi Eykelsson, Baroness Gianna Vettori and Mistress Brangwayn Snowden.

DEMOS

Scottish Games: Saturday, June 22, Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds. Set-up help will be needed on Friday, June 21. You must sign up in advance to get free admission. A Google sign-up form is now available. NEW: The site is requiring permits for tents 120 square feet in size and larger. Please give your tent dimensions to Lady Shahzada. Please sign up to bring a contribution to the hospitality tent.

OFFICER ANNOUNCEMENTS

Youth combat marshal Sergeant Bastian Eychener is stepping down soon and needs a  replacement. An officer application can be found on the baronial website.

GUILD ANNOUNCEMENTS

Archery Guild: There will be a practice on Monday, May 27. See archery marshal Lady Gwyneth for details.

Cooks Guild: There will be no cooks’ challenge on May 29. Siege cookery is the June challenge. See Lady Dorothea to get a bag of ingredients on May 29.

Makers Guild: Please contact the guild soon if you want items made for Pennsic. See Lord Gaius Macro Calvinus.

Needleworkers Guild: Meetings are held at Critical Hit gaming store in Cleveland Heights on the second and fourth Tuesdays at 6:30. See Lady Miriana to learn more. The group will meet to work on scroll cases on the first Tuesday of the month at Critical Hit.

Armorers Guild:  Meetings are held most Thursdays on the West Side. NEW: The hosts will be traveling for the next few weeks, so please do not assume guild meetings will be happening without speaking to Baron Calum first. There will be a meeting on May 23.

Garb-a-Thons: These sessions are opportunities to work on garb, get help sewing garb, or just socialize. Check the baronial Google calendar for details, and see Mistress Thorhalla, Lady Genevra and Lady Chaiya for details.

Exchequer: Members are asked to donate $2 per meeting, or $100 per year, to cover the cost of the meeting hall rental. We are paying the same rent at Saint Billy-Bob.

Quartermaster: The quartermaster must be notified at least two weeks in advance if a member wishes to borrow baronial gear.

Exchequer: Members are asked to donate $2 per meeting, or $100 per year, to cover the cost of the meeting hall rental. We are paying the same rent at Saint Billy-Bob.

Quartermaster: The quartermaster must be notified at least two weeks in advance if a member wishes to borrow baronial gear.

Officer Opening – Rapier Marshal and Youth Marshal

The Barony of the Cleftlands is accepting applications for Rapier Marshal and Youth Marshal, and Quartermaster. These positions require current SCA membership. If you would like to be considered for any of these positions, please fill out the application online. The submission will be received by the Baron, Baroness, Seneschal, and current office holder for review prior to being presented at an Officers meeting for final vote. IMPORTANT INFORMATION / STANDARD BEARERS

Standard Bearers and Northern Oaken Regional A&S Fair, April 13 at Sts. Robert and William Church in Euclid. Contact Lord Tarmach, the event steward, with questions.

NEW: Food prep for Standard Bearers is 2 p.m. Sunday, April 7 at Mistress Angharad’s house. See Mistress Angharad or Lady Dorothea for details.

NEW: Saturday, April 6 is the last day to enter the A&S Fair. Judges are still needed. See Sir Crispin or Mistress Milesent for details.

NEW: Donated breakfast items are needed for Standard Bearers. Please sign up using the Google form on the event Facebook page, or see Lady Genevra.

NEW: Her Highness needs retainers. Sign up on the event website or the Northern Oaken Regional A&S Fair website. See Baroness Gianna with questions.

The site fee is by donation, but please pre-register for the feast, either via PayPal or at next week’s meeting.

Standard Bearers competitions will include armored combat, rapier combat and A&S. The archery champion will be selected at Fletchings of Spring.

Armored combatants should bring a full gauntlet and 6-foot spear.

UPCOMING BARONIAL EVENTS

May 18: Fletchings of Spring, held at Liberty Park in Twinsburg. The baronial archery championship will be held at this event, not Standard Bearers. Event steward is Lord Tarmach.

There will be target and combat archery. One fee includes lunch. Due to site restrictions, money cannot be taken on site, so the event is pre-registration only. Pay Pal information will be on the event website soon.

Scottish Games: Saturday, June 22, Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds. Set-up help will be needed on Friday, June 21. A Google sign-up form will be available soon. See Lady Shahzada for more information.

OFFICER ANNOUNCEMENTS

NEW OFFICERS NEEDED: Rapier marshal Lord Reinhardt (Labros) Mit Dem Bartand and Sergeant Bastian Eychener are stepping down soon and need replacements. An officer application can be found on the baronial website.

Needleworkers Guild: Meetings are held at Critical Hit gaming store in Cleveland Heights on the second and fourth Tuesdays at 6:30. See Lady Miriana to learn more.
