Baronial Announcements
This weekend marks the momentous occasion of the Coronation of the next King and Queen of the Middle Kingdom.
Per His Excellency Pietro – The time is upon us all in the Cleftlands to begin the selection of Our Successors. Her Excellency and I will not be standing for the office again. Now is the time to consider candidates for these offices – either yourself or people who you feel would do well in the job. If you have friends who you feel would excel in this, ask them. Cajole them. Talk to each other. If you have questions about the duties, demands, joys and challenges, come talk to the current Baron & Baroness or any of the former holders of these offices. You might also ask our baronial Seneschal or any of his several predecessors for their parallax view on these matters.
This is the timeline offered for the process. The dates may yet deviate slightly, as needs dictate.
September 23 – Barone Pietro & Baronessa Aurelia announce that the time for succession polling has come.
October 7 – The Kingdom Deputy for Transitions informs the Crown and Kingdom Seneschal of the impending poll and places a Pale announcement.
October 13 – Syr Crispin, the Cleftlands baronial seneschal, begins accepting Letters of Intent from those who wish to stand for the appointment. Candidates have 30 days to submit their Letters of Intent at seneschal@cleftlands.org
November 11 – Last day to submit your Letter of Intent. These are sent to the Crown, and the Kingdom Deputy for Transitions, who manages the polling process.
November 18 – There will be a Question-and-Answer session here in the Barony for all the candidates who have turned in their letters. A system will be set up to submit questions for the candidates ahead of the meeting, and those questions will then be presented by our Seneschal Syr Crispin during the Q & A, for better organization.
November 19 – Baronial Transition poll opens. All interested parties have 21 days to submit a reply to the poll, giving the Crown their opinions & advice
December 10 – Polls close.
February 16 – Crown makes their decision.
March 27 – this is the presumptive date for Our successors’ investiture.
Following the Pale announcement, any interested party may answer the poll and offer the Crown their advice on this matter. However, poll responses are separated into two baskets: Cleftlanders, and Everyone Else. Everyone is heard, though the Crown considers each set of voices differently, with greater weight placed on the residents of the barony.
Staff assistance is still being sought for Fall Crown Tourney. Contact Syr Crispin, Forester Cadfan, or Mistress Snowden if interested.

Upcoming Demos
In December, a demo of A&S for the East Cuyahoga County Genealogical Society. A sign up sheet will be going up in the next week for people interested in participating.
Officer Announcements
From Forester Cadfan – the demo in Garrettsville that took place this past weekend went very well, according to Sargeant Bennet. There are several SCA people back there this evening holding an official practice, and assisting several interested new people try on armored combat.
Lord Robert atte Northclyfe would like to remind everyone about the upcoming election in the Mundane World. He has brought voter registration forms to meeting. Also, he is now running pre-reg for Crown Tourney during meeting.
Guild Announcements
Armorers Guild will be meeting tomorrow, 9/24. Contact Calum for details.
Needleworkers Guild, in conjunction with Garb-a-Thon, will be doing a Scroll Case project. Time and place yet to be announced, but donations of fabric and cardboard will be accepted at meeting.
Archery practice will not be meeting the next two weekends. It will resume Sunday, 10/11, from 12 to 2.
Cooks Guild challenge for next week will be something made with local food items

A class on the Japanese technique of mending clothing, Sashiko, to be taught by Lady Nadyezhda the Simple, following meeting
Shortly before this evening’s Business Meeting, the report came over Social Media of the passing of Dame Alys Katherine, due to complications of an illness. Her Excellency Madelaine Bouvier, who had been helping Dame Alys over many months, reminded us that Dame Alys was a Pelican, a Laurel, a Mistress of the Rose, and a Chatelaine. Her Excellency worked diligently for a long time with the A&S community at Pennsic, organizing the class schedule for the Pennsic University. (Chronicler’s note: Countess Alys was the 65th Queen of the Midrealm and a long-time Cleftlander, as well as an enthusiastic Teacher both in and out of the Society.) She had just recently moved to Duluth to be nearer to Her daughter, who is a doctor. Information will be forthcoming about any remembrance ceremony.
Dame Alys will be greatly missed.

We meet at the Good Shepherd Family Center, St John of the Cross, 140 Richmond Rd, Euclid. Please use the entrance at the northern far end along the parking lot. Baronial Briefing/Announcements are held at 7:30.
