Officer Application – Pursuivant

Let it be known unto the populace of the Barony of Cleftlands, that the noble office of Pursuivant now stands open, and worthy applicants are sought to bear the voice and arms of the Barony. The Pursuivant is charged with matters of heraldry and ceremony: to give cry at tourney and court, and to aid the populace in fair registration of names and devices.

Job Description 

The Pursuivant (Herald) is in charge of group heraldry and protocol. They act as the first point of contact to address their group members’ heraldic needs, such as names and devices – or they connect them to someone who can help. They are the first asked to attend any local courts, as a herald is required for such. They may make announcements to the public, or assist at the list tables. The position is required in order for the Barony to remain active. The Herald will make regular reports to their Kingdom officer.

Qualifications

  • Active member of the SCA (required)
  • Excellent knowledge of SCA heraldry rules and court protocols
  • Ability to attend local activities as needed, or arrange for someone who can
  • Comfortable speaking in public
