Snowball Fight!

Ready to enjoy an amazing (and warm) snowball fight? Bring pairs of NEW socks rolled into balls and fire away! Can’t bring new socks? No worries! We will also have a limited number of socks and sock substitutes to rent for the snowball fight in exchange for a small donation. When Old Meets the Present!

Invoking the (C)reative in SCA, this challenge is to apply your period sensibility and research to a modern medium. A perfect venue to share your tie-dye Elizabethan, laser-cut reliquary, or silk-screened banners. Challenge: Using period techniques, styles, or skills on a medium or item commonly found in modern day. Please provide one page of documentation including your name, an explanation of the item and the skills you used to create it. This challenge with test your creativity, and how well you can “maverick” a creation from both the old and new. Sponsor: Lady Jaquelinne de la Deicier, Cleftlands.

Class Descriptions

  • Herbs: Friend of Physicians, Praise of Cooks – Herbs have been in use for centuries curing ailments and creating amazing food. Come and learn the history and use of herbs through the centuries and how they can still be used in modern times. We will discuss the many types of preparations for different types of plants and each person will have the chance to mix their own concoction to take home. Fee goes toward materials.   • Structure in Italian Rapier – This class will help fencers at all levels learn how to use the natural structural strength of the human body instead of muscle power and tension to improve their speed and stability through the lens of Gigianti’s teachings on rapier. [Rapier List, 1-2 pm) Instructor: Warder Raphael di Merisi.
  • Honorable Company of Embroiderers Panel – The Honorable Company of Embroiderer’s will be hosting a Panel. Please print “The Honorable Company of Embroiderers Panel Form’, as needed. You will need one form for each piece you wish to have paneled. [Fee: $0, Place and Time: Class Room 2, 2-3pm, Hosting: Baron Edward Brackenbury]
  • Making a Birgitta Cap (3-Part Class) – A reconstruction of the St. Birgitta’s cap, a classic linen head covering for women found in many 13th and 14th century manuscripts. Sarai will walk you through the entire process: you’ll leave with more sewing experience, and a cap to wear to court! Class is limited to 6-8 people.  Part 1) Initial cap construction: 1.5hours, Part 2) Embroidery: 2 hours, Part 3) Finishing: 1 hour [Fee: $5, Place and Time: Class Room 3, 11am-4pm, Instructor: Lady Sarai Tindail Sogliano]
  • Simple Stitches Make Beautiful Things 101: Off and Running – This is the class for you if you’ve always wanted to pick up the needle, or if you are new to needle-arts and want to learn some tricks or ask questions! This class will cover how to dress a hoop, how to put fabric on your hoop – choosing tension, sewing vs. stabbing, blunt vs. pointy, when to beeswax, 3 basic stitches, running stitch using the bio-mechanical gauge, whipped running stitch and back stitch. The class will include making something pretty on the hoop. Bring your own hoop, needle, thread & fabric or purchase a kit for $5. Auditors welcome, 15 & up please. Beginners welcomed with open arms!
