Baron and Baroness, Crispin and Gianna
- Good evening, Cleftlands and welcome to this week’s baronial meeting. We hope that you have all been well and we hope to be able to see you all soon.
- Curia and the Crown have decided to extend the reign of His Majesty Felix and Her Majesty Madeleina until at least March 2021. Their Majesties will hold the crown of the Middle Kingdom until that time. There are plans to hold a Crown Tournament in October, by invitation only.
- There were changes made to the Society Marshal’s Handbook that allow for certain new things, including the new rebated steel, plumbata, slings, or atl-atls.The Middle Kingdom is not going to adopt any of those things at this time. The Earl Marshal has decided that after all the restrictions are lifted and we can start meeting again, we will hold various meetings and talk about how and if we want to implement these things into our kingdom.
Seneschal, Claricia
- The Midrealm has cancelled all August events. This includes all marshal activities, including equestrian and archery. We can still meet in small groups according to the guidelines that are available on the Cleftlands website, along with forms needed to do an official guild meeting.
- Standard Bearers will not be held this year. Their Excellencies already announced that their champions will serve a longer term.
- We will reserve a February date on the Kingdom calendar for Regular Event in the hopes that we will be able to have it. An event steward is needed; contact Lady Claricia or Their Excellencies if you are interested. An experienced event steward is preferred because of the unusual situation.
- Lady Claricia sent out a survey to find out how the populace felt about virtual gatherings for the barony. There were about 40 responses. The majority were in favor of virtual meetings once a month or as needed, and against online social gatherings. Therefore, virtual baronial meetings will be held on that schedule.
- Sergeant Njall has started an online shop offering items bearing the Cleftlands device. See Facebook for details.
- Cleftlands has a wiki that includes information about members of the Barony – please update your information at http://www.cleftlands.org/cleftlands-wiki/populace-update/ or use the Wiki to research your friends.
Guilds and Guild Adjacent Activities
Some guilds are hosting virtual online activities; please contact the person in charge for details or see the Cleftlands Facebook group for more information. Guilds are permitted to meet in small groups, according to the guidelines that are available on the Cleftlands website, along with forms needed to do an official guild meeting. Guilds are the special interest groups of the SCA: people working together to focus on a particular activity. Everyone is welcome to attend these meetings.

- For safety’s sake, please check the condition of your blades.

- Because of the new law stating that combatants no longer need to be SCA members, all armored and rapier fighters and archers need to file new waiver forms with the marshallate. You can check the Midrealm authorization database to check on your status.

- There are two weeks left in the Pennsic 49 Project Challenge, which asks gentles to get started on a project now for next year’s Pennsic and post photos to the Cleftlands Facebook page.

- Outgoing Youth Minister Lady Zofia der Kinder expressed her pleasure at having served the barony, and welcomed her successor, Lord Rojhon. He issued a challenge to the barony’s youth to make a toy or game with things you have at home: string, printer paper, paper clips, pebbles, toilet paper rolls, and writing utensils. Details will be on Facebook.
